Fallbrook Fire

Thanks for all the comments and emails. We are not out of the danger completely but the news channels have helicopter up and flying over the areas in Fallbrook.

Finally, the local stations are showing what is going on.

I am going to sign off on this blog, unless something turns for the worse.

My prayers are with all those who have suffered in this disaster.

Fallbrook Fire--terrible job by local T.V.

The air quality is terrible here at 76 and East Vista Way. Can't see the river valley. Thank God the winds are down.

The news coverage on this fire has been horrible!!!! I give them an F for not being prepared and for being stupid.

1st off, Google has an excellent map system that can easily be projected on the T.V. Showing a map of the entire county is okay, but hey journalist, how about some details!

Also, reporters in the field, have you ever heard of a hand held GPS?. It can tell you exactly where you are--and with a boyscout compass and a Thomas brothers map you could give out your correct location and avoid giving false directions, i.e. pointing north when in fact you were point almost due west.

There have been some great comments on my postings. It was great to get almost immediate feed back for those who had questions from those still in the Fallbrook area.

Part of my evacuation go bag in the future will be a hand held GPS, compass, and some good maps and bincoculars.

Fallbrook Rice Canyon Fire 1:55 A.M. Tuesday

I am on top of a hill South of San Luis Rey River, 76 and East Vista way.

Wind has shifted and is now blowing toward the South. 76 is closed down East of East Vista Way.

I see some light redish glow in the smoke, but no big fires.

Hope the reinforcements can get a handle on this before the wind picks up again.

I am not happy with this wind change as it will start blowing fire and smoke my way.

Glad to see all the good comments. I am going to get some sleep for a few hours.

This was taken from about the same spot the night shots were taken.

Fallbrook Rice Canyon Fire 12:10 AM Tuesday

It is really hard to find coverage on the Fallbrook fire on T.V. Roads into Fallbrook have been closed. from my vantage point I am not seeing any spectacular fires. I am searching the net for anybody that has information on what is happening now. I had a friend that lives by the Golf Course. I have not been able to contact him.

If anybody living in Fallbrook who is still there post your link to my site and I will do same for you.

Fallbrook Rice Canyon Fire Update Tuesday 12:05 A.M PST

Rancho Santa Fe looks like it is really being hit hard.

Fallbrook Rice Canyon Fire 10:53 PM PST

The fire I photographed is about 4 miles north of the Old Bonsall Bridge. Just took a look about 5 minutes ago and it looks like it has calmed down a lot. However, I saw a similar situation earlier in the evening and then the fire came back with a vengence.

Fallbrook Rice Canyon Fire 10:40 P.M. PST

I will posting more information on the fire in about 1 hour. I am in the mandatory evacuation area, but from my vantage point I can pretty much the entire south side of Fallbrook, West Oceanside and Southeast part of Camp Pendleton. I have a tile roof and stucco side with lots of iceplant around. South of the San Luis Rey River we all live on 2-40 acres and have been diligent in maintaining fire breaks. I am prepared to send my wife and son out with all the stuff. The fire department does not appear to be doing any property protection. Everybody is in the life saving mode--aka every man woman and child for himself.

Santa Ana winds will pick up after midnight--at least from my experience and then we might see the fires race to the ocean.

Fallbrook Rice Canyon Fire 6:21PM PST

Winds have died down. Planes are dropping fire retardants. Cross your fingers that the Santa Ana winds are calming down by morning.

Sunset photos will be posted in a couple of hours.

Fallbrook Fire San Diego County

It is hot. It is dry. The winds are blowing hard from the East.

I am on top of a hill South of the San Luis River. To the North of the River is Fallbrook. I can see toward Fallbrook, West Oceanside, back side of Camp Pendleton and all the way to the sea.

Fallbrook is engulfed in smoke and flames! And it is moving west toward Oceanside, Camp Pendleton and the Pacific Ocean.

Pictures to follow......
