Hello. My parents have evacuated Fallbrook. I am in Florida. Can you give me some details (if possible) of where the Fallbrook Fire is. Their house is off Olive Hill Road, about 2 miles up from Mission.
The winds dying down and planes dropping the orange goo is a plus, I suppose.
I'm with you emb... my family evacuated Fallbrook to the beach and I'm trying to find out where things stand in Fallbrook. KFMB reported 1,000 acres burned and 100 homes/structures burned (per City News Service report) but I find that hard to believe!?! I know the fire at one point was along Reche Road near Scooter Lane. My sister and parents each have a house on Green Canyon Road up the hill from that point (past Live Oak Park) but I can't find good info on where the fire stands right now.
I live in Vista near Rancho Guajome. We can see the smoke and we're very angry and frustrated that all the News channels are not reporting anything about Fallbrook and Bonsall. I found this blog trying to find out any info about our areas. Has SD forgotten about us?
Helen I totally know what you are talking about. My family and my gf's family have evacuated to Vista and I keep getting little updates from my friend that lives in Bonsall. He told me that the Hospital was evacuated and that Live Oak Park was/is on fire.
KOGO now reporting what KFMB reported - 100 homes/structures destroyed. That was first reported by City News Service. Presuming then that the data is believed to be accurate that report came from about 1 1/2 hours ago.
Rice fire update Posted @ 7:16 PM The Rice fire is burning in the area near Gird Road and Reche Road not far from Live Oak Park, officials said. Residents are still being told to evacuate through Camp Pendleton.
Interstate 5 is still open but the California Highway Patrol is deciding at moment whether the freeway is safe to stay open.
We had to evacuate my mother-in-law earlier today, she lives in Sycamore Ranch near Gird Rd. and the 76. The sheriff went door to door and told everyone to leave. That was about 2 PM today and the fire at that time was near Live Oak Park. The winds have died down now.
Hi all, my sister lives on Via Cumbres in Fallbrook. She left at about 6:30pm and watched the fire advance. She said it jumped over the 15 twice-- at 12:30 and around 2pm. It was advancing southwest towards them, though relatively slowly. At about 6pm the last thing she told me was that she just saw it to the northeast, coming over a ridge, which I assume is west of Live Oak and Yucca. The flames and ash convinced them to leave.
I live in Fallbrook, the last I heard the fire was on Reche Rd heading toward Live Oak Park. The entire town was evacuated. Olive Hill is pretty far from there so your parents home should be safe.
Does anyone know if the Fallbrook fire has reached Stewart Canyon Road? We know the fire has jumped the I-15 heading west, but we've also heard that it is also heading south along the east side of the highway. Any info would be greatly appreciated. God bless...
The news won't tell us what's going on. The 76 eastbound is closed at Melrose. I had trouble getting home tonight. I'm going down to Apple Market to see if I can find out anything.
One more from my sister, there are three major parts to the fire: one has reached Ranger Road, another is on Yucca near Mission, and the third is at Pala Mesa.
Can anyone tell me if the fire has gone North of E. Mission Road? My Parents home is back off of Vista Del Rio and I have heard reports of another fire (Rainbow?) jumping the freeway. This is pretty much the back part of Pendelton. Thanks. This is so horrible.
Keeping my fingers crossed that the fire jumped into live oak and didn't blaze a trail. My parents live just west(less than 1/4 mile) from scooter lane. My mom is a wreck, the lack of news coverage is frustrating!!! I just feel so helpless
At 5 p.m., all roads leading out of town were still choked with traffic, as residents made their way toward coastal evacuation centers in Orange County.
"As far as the houses on top of Puerto Del Mundo, the last I saw it the flames were racing toward several houses up there. It probably is not going to be good."
" I just talked to my sister in Fallbrook at 8:30 p.m. She and my brother-in-law were evacuated and police came by to make sure that everyone left. They live on Reche and Via Del Oro. They have a horse, and they said that people with horse trailers have been asked to NOT leave because they don't want the horse trailers on the road because of the traffic. There are 15-20 people, (and about the same number of horses)camped out at the Riders Field on Stagecoach, across from Christ The King church. My brother-in-law says that he had just driven by Magarian and the fire has NOT reached there. However, some other people at the Riders Field say that they (or family members) saw at least 5 structures burning on Gird Road. Stores are mostly closed, including the gas stations. However, Robertito's Taco place is still open, and there are still a lot of people out and about, driving around. " -Laurie
Does anyone know if the fire has crossed Gird road and is moving towards Mission? How are the winds and are there any firefighters in the area or are they all in San Diego?
Does anybody have an update on La Paloma School? My mom lives on Aves Ln. very close to the school. How close is the person who is watching La Paloma? Thank you.
Frank, and everyone else. Thanks. Keep it coming and thank you for keeping us informed. Our communication via cell phone to our relatives by reading this is the only link we have to keep them informed
La Paloma is fine. No fire is there. My friends are driving down Ranger Road right now and it looks like the fires are getting close to Live Oak Park but are not there yet. If you want any areas checked let me know.
i belive that area is fine the fire should never reach there. however the fire most likely will catch oceanside on fire and move its way down to carlsbad and so on. which scares me considering i live in carlsbad but your parents should be fine
I talked to my dad at 8:30 and he was back at his house off of Wilt and Reche. He said that there are several houses that had been destroyed, but his was saved. There was still some smoldering going on in the avocado grove and the trash was on fire. He was able to put it out. The neighbors house was starting to burn, but the fire fighters seemed to have a handle on it. Good luck to you all.
Have some friends with us in San Clemente who have evacuated from their home in Fallbrook just West of Olive Hill Road near Morro Hills Road. Where is the fire with respect to their home so I can give them some info.
does anyone have information about Riverview Drive, or any of the areas north of Mission road.
I can't imagine it having burnt that far from Pala Mesa. That is probably 500-700 homes, but I need to know if my house is still standing. My wife is a wreck and my kids look shell-shocked.
Did the Pala Mesa Resort and attached condos get burnt, or is that hearsay? Internet info is sketchy and the news channels are useless.
I hope you can help me. My family and I left fallbrook at around 4:30pm. We live behind the Wells Fargo Bank. Please keep me posted with any new developments!!! We are up in Palm Springs with family.
I live in Orange County and have a house on Olive Hill and via Puerto De Sol, does anyone know how far it is from the Bonsall Village and if it is heading that way, thanks to everyones adn their up dates!!!
Does anyone know if the fire has gone up Pala Road, just before the Pala Mesa Country club? It's the road that the fire station is on. My parent's house is up there and we can't find any info on this. It's right near the 15/76 intersection. We live in the Bay Area and feel for all involved - this is so horrible.
we heard on http://www.signonsandiego.com/signonradio/sosdradio.asx that Pala Resort was burned down, but since I'm in Seattle and can't see it I can't verify. Just letting you know what we heard
Thanks Kyle, my wife' Dad live at the end of the road(East) so if you so hear anything please let us know. We're calling him every 30 mins or so giving updates since all he has is the radio, not this resource
Just talked to my dad and he said most of the homes (ten) in the gully off of Wilt Road and Wildflower are gone. He can also here propane tanks exploding all over. He said the grove is destroyed and there is no way to water it because the sprinklers melted. If you have a house in this area there is a good chance that it is still there. The fires are spotty. His house was saved at least for the moment. He's going to be up all night looking for hot spots.
Todd the fire is not to Gracey Lane. Tell your family the fire is right by Fallbrook Golf Course but seems to be going around it. Sorry it took so long to answer. The fire seems it's being held at Gird.
Thanks, my parent's home is right above Wilt Road and we'll hope for the best that it survives the night. They watered their groves, so maybe that'll help. I hope your father keeps safe.
Yes Ed and Porfie are them. WOW! they are gone but we are trying to find out what the story is and it's tough 1400 miles away. We have talked to them every 30-45 min and haven't heard too much that is "REALLY" close to update them.
I am responding to Amy's post @ 9:26 she said if you want anything checked out let me know. My sister lives off E Mission and Santa Margarita by the graveyard- do you know if the fire is there yet? mint
Re the Pala Mesa Resort -- here's some positive info from another blog, which you can read at http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2007/10/23/news/top_stories/10_15_5567_22_07.txt

" Info about the Pala Resort, hotel rooms are still there. Back portion of the restaurant is burned but the main portion of the building is intact. Fire Department is using the resort as a command center so the area around the resort should be safe. "
Does anyone know the condition of Pala Mesa Village, just above the Pala Mesa Market area? I have heard that Pala Mesa Resort is on fire and am wondering if the fire spread due south of that.....
such a tragic day for so many...thanks for any info.
Any ideas about how far south the fire is. I realize it is probably sporadic. My parents house is off Olive Hill road, about 2 miles north of mission. Rancho Camino is the name of the street.
andydrea -- As of an hour ago area south of Pala Mesa golf course was okay. Checked an answering machine in the area to confirm. Lots of info on that area on this blog:
Amy Thanks! They lost their house in the Last Fallbrook fire- I know they just couldn't handle this again. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families in Fallbrook and beyond! Hang in there!
To update everyone. My friends that are still in Fallbrook say that the fire is being held at gird for now and it spreads all the way to the 76. so basically everything west of gird is ok for now. When they drove north they saw that the avocado grove north west of the mission exit of the 15 was on fire. It doesn't look like the fire has reached fire mountian yet and the wind is blowing south west for now and it has died down quite a bit. Once again this is from people that have just driven by there.
The fire looks really bad and I am about 5 miles from the front. I have posted pictures I have just taken. I am South of the San Luis Rey River. The fire is eating up houses. I have seen at least 5 propane tanks explode. I will try to find a map and pinpoint the location of my photos.
Please, anyone with information on homes on Tecalote Dr. from Reche to Canonita. My home is on Tecalote close to Reche just above the Valley Oaks mobil home park. We evact at around 12:00pm. Any info. would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
4000 block of S. Mission Road (about 2 miles north of S Mission & 76) answering machine still picks up. Anyone know how far the fire is from there? I'm out of state right now and can't reach anyone, including the place where I board my horses next door. :(
Just drove east on E. Mission. The fire was about 1/2 mile east of Willow Glen, and appeared to be only south of E. Mission. We turned around at Willow Glen. That is about four miles from town center.
Amy: Thank you so much for your reports. I've been trying to get a sense of how things are around Green Canyon Road and Green Briar Circle. That's just to the West of Gird and South of Reche as I understand. Have numerous family members in this area and am extremely concerned. Any sense of how things are here?
I just got back from Fallbrook and I am very shocked on how everything there is. I live on Mission and Pico and the Police officers were making everyone leave. They had about 10 cruisers there ready for evacuation, and making sure the little side streets were taking care of. From what I saw on top of Santa Margarita and Porter St., It was a little clear and smoke was moving towards the west. The fire was about 2 to 3 miles away from there (not sure what the streets around there, sorry). Then I went on Stage Coach Lane and I saw a fire building at Potter Jr. High, I saw flames building up and I didn't hear or see a fire crew there. Driving back to Vista and trying to leave Fallbrook, I can only see ashes falling and the wind kept changing every 30 seconds. I don't know what the night is going to bring us, I can only pray for everyone and for their houses to be safe.
My roommate's brothers are stuck in Fallbrook on the hill near South Mission and Sycamore Drive. They tried to evacuate earlier but traffic was so bad they had to turn around. Now they are trying to get out through Pendleton, but the battery in their car died. Does anyone have any ideas?
I live in Fallbrook and I live pretty close to the middle school area and the middle school area is not on fire and there never was a fire at the middle school...also the fire is located as of now by the Live Oak Park and Gird rd.i contacted my father who is a sheriff officer i am going to be going back to my area to check up on things...but to everyone do not belive eveything you see on blog sites...check with the news or call a fire disater help line or 211...
So glad you guys are here. Its near impossible to get good info anywhere. My folks were evacuated this afternoon. They live above the High School off Knollwood, near Stagecoach and Mission. My poor mother has serious hard core cancer and is undergoing chemo. This was SO not what they needed. She can barely move right now she is so exhausted and stressed and just crying imagining her house gone. They are here at my house in Burbank and I think they both finally fell asleep. I'm hoping to have good news for them when they wake up. Anyone have any ideas about that location? I looked at some of the links and I think I can see that the fire is East of their place, but just not positive as I'm not awfully familar with the area.
fire still at gird. not at high school. red mountain and santa margarita is hard to tell. There is just a lot of smoke. My friend in Fbrook is going to drive around again soon.
I am glad so much information has found its way to this blog. From my vantage Fallbrook looked like it was taking a real beating. Hopefully dee0808 will post a new update here. Sounds like he has a handle on what is going down in Fallbrook.
At about 11pm we watched from No. Pasadena the fire march down E. Mission and burn the old Nickerson's Nursery, and all the house across from the school on Gum Tree. Now it is burning to the north. Knoll Park Ln.? It looks like it is headed for the mobile home park on E. Mission and Santa Margarita. Then my house will be next. This is so bad!
Just called my parents house off Dorothea, in the Calmin Knolls area. Answering machine came on. Also tried family friend off Debra Ann near La Paloma and it worked there too!
Hello again, we tried to get an update if Gracey lane was affected. Can anyone verify that> Kyle thank you for your response. If you hear anything please let us know. I will call Ed this morning and let him know we saw you here.
From 1/2 mile north of downtown Fallbrook, at this time the sky is clear above, the smoke appears to be originating from the Willow Glen area along E. Mission. This is not much change from last night at 11:00 when I witnessed the fire line east of Willow Glen and south of E. Mission.
Hopefully anyone can update us on the area east of S Mission/Winterwarm road and West of Gird Road. We have family on Gracey lane and they are trying to get info. I'm in Seattle trying to help get info. Anything is appreciated
I just heard that the Fallbrook Fire has moved into Santa Margarita Cyn and is threatening homes, does anyone have any info there? I called our house & the machine is still picking up....but who knows how close the fire is?
Okay, thanks. I'm trying to find out more. My friend drove back to see if he could tell the full extent of the damage but all the roads into fallbrook, including back streets, are closed. No one can get in. If I find out more I'll let you know.
Looking east from Stage Coach about 1/4 mile north of E. Mission at noon, the fire looked to be on the east side of Red Mountain. Smoke indicating active burning was visible along the ridge line probably for a mile north of East Mission. But no flames were visible at the crest of the ridge or west side of the ridge. The wind was moderate, and the fire although burning strongly did not seem to be advancing rapidly.
We are in Guatemala ... my mother's home is inside Valley Oaks Mobile Park ... we keep hearing that it's totally destroyed and now we're hearing that there are some mobiles still standing. Anyone have any more info? My mom's mobile is fairly close to the golf course
one website said it was 75% destroyed. it said that it was mostly the side closest to pala mesa or the back end I guess. I don't know the area too well so maybe that will help.
where did you get the map of the fires? I went to google and tried typing in the Rice Canyon fire but I only got a Fallbrook location and facts that weren't up to date.
I'm really sorry, but I made a mistake. the website said the trailers closest to pala mesa were okay, that the ones close to the road were the ones that got destroyed. I'm so sorry.
Hello folks, I grew up in Fallbrook as my parents moved there in the 1960's and my father and I went through some areas today by vehicle.
I saw some posts and here is what we saw this afternoon.
La Paloma School, Potter Junior High, Fallbrook High School were all okay. Even Live Oak Park only had scorching on oak tops and on sides trees. Areas of Gird Road has some sporadic burning in canyons, like near Canonita and Nuestra (closest to the park). The areas in Los Alisos had some burn areas but more sporadic finger-like burns.
The areas that were gutted were parallel to Interstate 15 from Mission Road to Pala Mesa especially at Ranger Road...many there were totally destroyed. The trailer park on Reche was absolutely destroyed. All units were ash/white rubble shells. The area in Wilt Road had major blocks so we could enter. Reche Road had burn areas around Tecolote and down to Atkins off and on...sometimes a home was destroyed and other homes barely scorched.
The areas of Green Canyon, Winterwarm, Stagecoach, Green Briar, were all fine...at least when we passed there earlier.
We could not enter further north. The fire is into Santa Magarita canyons and threatening De Luz (which is going North of Mission to Fallbrookites).
As a footnote to the trailer park on Reche, I do not know if EVERY unit was destroyed (as we could not enter toward Pala Mesa direction) but it "appeared" from Reche Road that everything was leveled.
Fallbrook Golf Course on Gird looked fine.
It appeared the fire stayed on east side of Gird.
There was an eerie fog-like orange gray haze throughout town. No wind that we encountered.
imagemaker My wife's father lives on Gracey lane, NE of the Winterwarm road area. They are atop the area to the west looking down to Gird. Have you seen it that area is OK?
they are staying in Costa Mesa now and they cannot see this BLOG and we live in Marysville, WA (north of Seattle) and have been feeding them info as we can gather it.
Can you confirm this and do you believe they can attempt to return home tomorrow?
geospace anybody know when we can return to the SE quarter of Fallbrook? Burnable fuel now greatly expended, winds down. What would be the criteria for reentry?
Thanks to everyone for the info. on Valley Oaks Mobile ... we heard late yesterday afternoon that my mom's home is still standing. We're in Guatemala and this has and still is quite an emotional roller coaster ... next up ... wondering when we can re-enter, flying back to CA on Saturday night. Any idea which authorities we should be checking with?
Information is so variable and sporadic...its difficult to know exactly what is happening...
They now say that the Valley Oaks mobile was 75% destroyed with maybe 50 or so units not burned.
Four townhomes in Pala Greens (close to Pala Mesa) area are burned...others were okay....
I do not know about Gracey Lane and Winterwarm...there are reports of evacuations? of Winterwarm and San Luis Rey area of Bonsall, yet we saw nothing, no smoke or fire...so I dont know if a precaution or what...or to keep people away.
The area of fire seems to be concentrated in Santa Magarita area (Northwest Fallbrook) with reports of homes saved in the Riverview areas...700 plus firefighters..3 air tankers dropping water...moving toward De Luz area...worries about combining with the fire in north Camp Pendleton area (Horno?fire)...
Downtown Fallbrook apparently is okay.
TV broadcasts say officials are considering "repopulation of Fallbrook in 24-48 hours". Unsure if all areas or only south quadrant.
I received this message from the staff at Los Willows (out at the end of Stewart Road):
Dear Friends & Family
First let me take a moment to say thank you so very much for all of your kind words and support. It has touched all of our hearts so deeply.
The are not enough words I can use or find right now to begin to tell you all the story of hope and courage which has taken place at Los Willows. One day very soon I will put it all down and we will post it on the website along with some pictures. How the Modesto Firemen saved the Rolls Royce, how our Web Designer, Doug Bouma went and found Cathie & Winnie and stayed with them that first horrific night while everything was exploding around them.
For now I will give you this update - We are all safe and well. Al, Cathie, Winnie and Babe < who against all of our advice stayed onsite in the midst of a firestorm raging around them > are doing terrific. Al & Ramon, all alone, with no help, saved the facility from certain and complete disaster. In fact they have done such an outstanding job, if you stand on the lawn and look around, you would never believe a fire raged less than 1000 yards away. The gardens and grounds are intact, the Pavilion, a little bit dusty, is standing tall with not one ember mark! If you ever need to purchase a tent . boy o boy do I know a supplier for you! When they told us flame resistant, they neglected to tell us 100% fire PROOF!
We definitely have a few things to clean and repair at the moment. The biggest hurdle right now is the roads are still closed and the rest of us cannot get back onsite to help Al & Cathie, who refuse to rest. We currently have no power, that's why the phones do not work, and will not until SDG&E replaces the transformer, which exploded the first night not 50 feet from the main house. We have delivered food supplies and generators to Al, Cathie & Winnie < thank you SO much Officer Chase! >. And hopefully we will find a way in tomorrow. Some of the staff is planning to find a way to walk in ... that should be fun. I will find out how much I can carry ?
But the main thing is . we are here, we are safe, we are well and the Weddings will take place with all of the Bridal Dreams intact. Why God chose to spare us while the canyon burned to the ground around us, I do not know. except perhaps maybe all of your prayers were heard.
I am getting all of the emails from all 7 accounts. I am not sure when the phones will be back up, but please keep emailing and I will respond with as much info as I can. But know this, we are here and moving forward and Something Wonderful is About to Happen !
Kind Regards, Christine La Grua General Manager Los Willows
from geospace...homes destroyed in Rice Cyn fire are shown in recent inventory done by county. Addressees are shown for Reche Road and includes the destroyed mobile home units in Valley oaks. It is at www.sdcounty.ca.gov. It is a tragic list. I live on Wilt Rd (my house survived) and at least 4 very nearby neighbors' houses are on the list. You'll need a fallbrook map and phone book to correlate some of the addresses. Also, the local assistance center on Heald Lane is supposed to open today. But they are still not letting people in. Why? The county fire map shows no hot spots for the northward movement of the Rice cyn fire. We need to press the homeboys to let us in. SDGE says recovery service to start Saturday. The fire moves a lot faster than responses to it!
geospace asks... what's the story NOW on reentry? Who can and criteria. Are there criteris other than street? Like power is on, etc? Can we reenter off I-15?
It did not reach Past Live Oak Park. It didnt even reach it. It Stayed on Reche Rd. Burnt down were i used to call home, Valley Oaks Moble Home Park, but it didnt get past that. Also Pala Mesa Resort got burt down, but not all of the Condos.
My location is top of the hill at 76 and East Vista Way
Send photos and links of Fallbrook fire to fallbrookfire@hotmail.com I will post up the information. I will not post your name or email unless you request I do so.

Olive Hill is okay and is several miles from it.
Green Canyon is still in the clear as it hasn't reached Gird road yet, though it is very, very close.
Thoughts and prayers go out to all affected.
We have friends in Champagne Crest off of Gird Road and the 76 so I'm concerned about the fire.
Does anyone know if the fire has reached Live Oak Park? How are things along Gird Road?

Helen I totally know what you are talking about. My family and my gf's family have evacuated to Vista and I keep getting little updates from my friend that lives in Bonsall. He told me that the Hospital was evacuated and that Live Oak Park was/is on fire.
Anyone have any idea how strong the winds are blowing and from what direction?
Any input at all is appreciated.

Fallbrook Weather Station 3SE: ENE 15 G 70

FROM UNION TRIBUNE:
Rice fire update
Posted @ 7:16 PM
The Rice fire is burning in the area near Gird Road and Reche Road not far from Live Oak Park, officials said.
One other note, apparently the FD came by and expected it to reach Via Cumbres by about 9pm or 10pm.
We know the fire has jumped the
I-15 heading west, but we've also heard that it is also heading south along the east side of the highway. Any info would be greatly appreciated. God bless...
Does anyone have info what direction the fire is going?
The news won't tell us what's going on. The 76 eastbound is closed at Melrose. I had trouble getting home tonight. I'm going down to Apple Market to see if I can find out anything.
I live in the Sycamore ranch area, Gird and 76. Any one know what the status is on these homes??
The latest news from Camp Pendelton is that the fire has just reached Live Oak Park within the last 30 min.
One more from my sister, there are three major parts to the fire: one has reached Ranger Road, another is on Yucca near Mission, and the third is at Pala Mesa.
I've heard that it is almost to Green Canyon
Can anyone tell me if the fire has gone North of E. Mission Road? My Parents home is back off of Vista Del Rio and I have heard reports of another fire (Rainbow?) jumping the freeway. This is pretty much the back part of Pendelton. Thanks. This is so horrible.
Keeping my fingers crossed that the fire jumped into live oak and didn't blaze a trail. My parents live just west(less than 1/4 mile) from scooter lane. My mom is a wreck, the lack of news coverage is frustrating!!! I just feel so helpless
At 5 p.m., all roads leading out of town were still choked with traffic, as residents made their way toward coastal evacuation centers in Orange County.
the fire has reached Magarian rd, which is by La Paloma school
It's going down that corridor. It's like a revine, coming up behind the Catholic Church.
Is this true? The fire is on Fallbrook St?
"As far as the houses on top of Puerto Del Mundo, the last I saw it the flames were racing toward several houses up there. It probably is not going to be good."
We have family on Gracey Lane, east of Green Canyon Road and West Of Gird. They are South of what is reported on Fire, Live Oak Park.
Anyone know if the fire is south of Reche?
jeez, its travelled that far already? where did you get that info from? can you post a link??
Havent heard anything from Peppertree Park area? Any word on how close it is to there? Magarian rd sounds like it moved north from reche and gird.
It's headed toward Fallbrook Street. About 200-300 yards north from Calmin Knolls and Potter at this point. This is what I'm hearing.
Has the fire reached any of the following? Fallbrook High School, Los Alisos street or anywhere near the High School?
Has the fire reached winterhaven?
what I wouldn't give for an up-to-date map of the fire's path
Live Oak Park was seen on fire at 6:45pm from Stagecoach on the way out of town.
ANY News channel covering this at all?
Kadee:
Where are you?
Are you in Fallbrook? Are you on the phone? Are you talking/e-mailing/chatting with someone at the scene?

Im hoping the live oak fire was caused by flying embers. My parents home is on reche just east of the atkins nursery
"Just got a hold of family on Via Monserate. They got reverse 911, but are staying."
last part of first link got cut-off
it is

and the radio got cut off, last part

I'm pulling from different sources. My last eyes and ears just left so I'm using others online.
Not the freshest of links, but a good spot to keep checking on official news updates.
http://www.sdcountyemergency.com/
Have you actually seen the fire near La Paloma? My sister's house is near there.
What is reverse 911?
reverse 911 is when they call you and tell you to get the F out
Reverse 911 is when emergency offcials call YOU and tell you to LEAVE an area.
My parents got one at around 1:30 pm today
Reverse 911 is where police call you and tell you to get out.
We have an eye on La Paloma that hasn't left.
he can see the the fire glow towards La paloma school
Ok thanks, so anyone know about south of Via de la Robles and east of Winterwarm Drive?
We're in Seattle area trying to keep our family there updated since they have evacuated.
any word is appreaciated
Camp Pendleton gym has been taking marines living in Fallbrook in for the nigth. may be as many as 1,000 people up there.
Has the fire reached any of the following? Fallbrook High School, Los Alisos street or winterhaven streets?
Thank you!
Are they only taking Marines?
I'm not sure. They are evacuating people through the base to the 5.
-Laurie
I just called and The Mainside Camp Pendleton Gym can hold 500 people and they are taking anyone..not just marines.
Does anyone know if the fire has crossed Gird road and is moving towards Mission? How are the winds and are there any firefighters in the area or are they all in San Diego?
l live on Alta Vista Dr. Does anyone have any info on how close it is to the top of the hill?
Want to cross-reference a thread on signonsandiego.com so you can see all info
the link to the thread http://forum.signonsandiego.com/showthread.php?t=79200
what is "the thread"?
anyword on the current West edge of the fire and which direction it is going? Calmin Knolls is the last west posted? Peppertree park?
Dying over here not knowing
Sorry, other user comments from signonsandiego on fallbrook are here: http://forum.signonsandiego.com/showthread.php?t=79200
La Paloma School is a few blocks from my daughter's place, anyone have any new info?
Any info on Alta Vista yet? Someone...
I went to a hill in Bonsall where I could see down the 76 aways. I could see flames near the 76 and west of Gird. Hard to tell exactly, it's dark
How close is the fire to the actual town?
Does anybody have an update on La Paloma School? My mom lives on Aves Ln. very close to the school. How close is the person who is watching La Paloma? Thank you.
Does anyone know if the fire reached the Sandia Creek/Rock Mountain area?
Frank, and everyone else. Thanks. Keep it coming and thank you for keeping us informed. Our communication via cell phone to our relatives by reading this is the only link we have to keep them informed
The fire is at E. Mission and Ranger going west. Just on the nbc news, surprise.
Thank you Amy!!
does anyone have information about Riverview Drive, or any of the areas north of Mission road.
God bless, Warriors. Stay strong.
That must be the north end of it. I could see it closer to Monserate near the 76
Amy we're wondering if Gracey Lane is affected
I hope you can help me. My family and I left fallbrook at around 4:30pm. We live behind the Wells Fargo Bank. Please keep me posted with any new developments!!! We are up in Palm Springs with family.
I live in Orange County and have a house on Olive Hill and via Puerto De Sol, does anyone know how far it is from the Bonsall Village and if it is heading that way, thanks to everyones adn their up dates!!!
Can someone give me any information about Willowglen off of E. Mission? and Vista Del Rio? This is all North E. Mission. Thx.
Just heard on KFMB that 100 homes in Fallbrook lost to the fire.
Has the fire reached any of the following? Fallbrook High School, Los Alisos street or winterhaven streets?
Does anyone know about Los Willows........Our prayers are out to all the families!
Hows the area between S. Mission road and the town? North of Daniel's Market?
we heard on
http://www.signonsandiego.com/signonradio/sosdradio.asx
that Pala Resort was burned down, but since I'm in Seattle and can't see it I can't verify. Just letting you know what we heard
Todd...My parents live on Gracey Lane...They left but haven't heard anything...grew up there!
Thanks Kyle,
my wife' Dad live at the end of the road(East) so if you so hear anything please let us know. We're calling him every 30 mins or so giving updates since all he has is the radio, not this resource
Thanks again
Just talked to my dad and he said most of the homes (ten) in the gully off of Wilt Road and Wildflower are gone. He can also here propane tanks exploding all over. He said the grove is destroyed and there is no way to water it because the sprinklers melted. If you have a house in this area there is a good chance that it is still there. The fires are spotty. His house was saved at least for the moment. He's going to be up all night looking for hot spots.
Just moved to Alta Vista Dr. and Palomar intersection. Really need to know if ANYONE can verify that my house is still standing. SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP.
Todd the fire is not to Gracey Lane. Tell your family the fire is right by Fallbrook Golf Course but seems to be going around it. Sorry it took so long to answer. The fire seems it's being held at Gird.
Is Ed your wife's dad?? That's the only house on the Eastside...Are Ed and Porfi still there?? Is that the right house??
Thanks, my parent's home is right above Wilt Road and we'll hope for the best that it survives the night. They watered their groves, so maybe that'll help. I hope your father keeps safe.
Fire is not yet to Alta Vista and Palomar rd. Has not passed la canada rd from what i have heard.
I live just off of hillcrest so I just wanted to know how far north the fire has gone.
I don't know how far it has gone. I called and got an answering machine at house on la canada rd, so it's still standing!
Yes Ed and Porfie are them. WOW!
they are gone but we are trying to find out what the story is and it's tough 1400 miles away. We have talked to them every 30-45 min and haven't heard too much that is "REALLY" close to update them.
THANKS Kyle
Keri, Thank you so much. If you recieve ANY information on that surrounding area would you please let me know? I would greatly appreciate it!
Jeff wrote on Oct 22, 2007 9:49 PM:
" Info about the Pala Resort, hotel rooms are still there. Back portion of the restaurant is burned but the main portion of the building is intact. Fire Department is using the resort as a command center so the area around the resort should be safe. "
Mint...
Santa Margarita is fine.
Does anyone know the condition of Pala Mesa Village, just above the Pala Mesa Market area? I have heard that Pala Mesa Resort is on fire and am wondering if the fire spread due south of that.....
such a tragic day for so many...thanks for any info.
Amy,
Any ideas about how far south the fire is. I realize it is probably sporadic. My parents house is off Olive Hill road, about 2 miles north of mission. Rancho Camino is the name of the street.
Any ideas?
I live on Oak Cliff Dr off Gird By the Fallbrook Golf Course any info on the area?"
andydrea -- As of an hour ago area south of Pala Mesa golf course was okay. Checked an answering machine in the area to confirm. Lots of info on that area on this blog:
http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2007/10/23/news/top_stories/10_15_5567_22_07.txt
does anyone have any info on palo vista road...we have a house there and are in orange county tonight
emb145...
Olive Hill Road is fine. The farthest the fire has gone is Gird road which is quite a ways from Olive Hill.
Any word on how close fires are to Santa Margarita Rd?
Amy Thanks! They lost their house in the Last Fallbrook fire- I know they just couldn't handle this again. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families in Fallbrook and beyond! Hang in there!
Thank you Amy.
Goodnight and good luck to all.
I just called my house on stage couch and overbrook a 1 mile from high school and is still there
My dad's house is on W.Fig next to Pendleton. Does anyone know about the northwest part of Fallbrook, at W.Fig, W.Alvarado, etc. off N. Mission?
To update everyone. My friends that are still in Fallbrook say that the fire is being held at gird for now and it spreads all the way to the 76. so basically everything west of gird is ok for now. When they drove north they saw that the avocado grove north west of the mission exit of the 15 was on fire. It doesn't look like the fire has reached fire mountian yet and the wind is blowing south west for now and it has died down quite a bit. Once again this is from people that have just driven by there.
Anybody know the status of the Fallbrook Golf and Country Club?
I'm Dying here!
call your house and post if it's there this should give as good info what is going on
What is "gird"? when Amy says "west of gird"?
thanks
thx for the updates
i've posted everything i have here:
http://www.thelastminuteblog.com/california-wildfire-information/
Gird is a road on the east end of town. Search it on mapquest.com
gird is the st where the fire is
To all---
The fire looks really bad and I am about 5 miles from the front.
Thanks.
Just called our house 3161 Gird rd The answering machine came on!!!!
all i know the Valley Oaks mobil home park was on fire at around 2:00 pm
4000 block of S. Mission Road (about 2 miles north of S Mission & 76) answering machine still picks up. Anyone know how far the fire is from there? I'm out of state right now and can't reach anyone, including the place where I board my horses next door. :(
I just called house in Sycamore Ranch and theanswering machine came on
Thanks Marek! Can anyone else tell me about the homes on Tecalote Dr. Close to Reche?
Just drove east on E. Mission. The fire was about 1/2 mile east of Willow Glen, and appeared to be only south of E. Mission. We turned around at Willow Glen. That is about four miles from town center.
Have the fires gotten as far west as Red Mountain Dam Dr? And are they on the north side of Mission at this point?

This is the best map I've been able to find on various sites. Anyone else have anything better? Or any real-time satellite pics?
Thanks for that update Jim!
Amy: Thank you so much for your reports. I've been trying to get a sense of how things are around Green Canyon Road and Green Briar Circle. That's just to the West of Gird and South of Reche as I understand. Have numerous family members in this area and am extremely concerned. Any sense of how things are here?
Jim, I'm watching out for family on Santa Margarita and down on Elder St. Good info. Many thanks.
Does anyone know if the fire is still being held at Gird Rd?
ANY WORD ON FALLBROOK GOLF COURSE OR OAK CLIFF DR.
THANKS
Fire visible from Red Mountain. See real time camera at
http://hpwren.ucsd.edu/cameras/
My roommate's brothers are stuck in Fallbrook on the hill near South Mission and Sycamore Drive. They tried to evacuate earlier but traffic was so bad they had to turn around. Now they are trying to get out through Pendleton, but the battery in their car died. Does anyone have any ideas?
Try to find someone to give em a jump. If not, flag down a cop or firefighter.
Is there any word about the houses on Ranger Rd? Did the fire go up into that area?
I thought it was Knoll Park, but at a second look, I think it is No. Stage Coach. I can see 4 houses burning right now.
Just called my parents house off Dorothea, in the Calmin Knolls area. Answering machine came on. Also tried family friend off Debra Ann near La Paloma and it worked there too!
I drove over to Sycamore Ranch this morning and the roads were all open. Everything looks OK at Gird & 76. News said it's moving toward Deluz.
Hello again, we tried to get an update if Gracey lane was affected. Can anyone verify that>
Kyle
thank you for your response.
Mission.
anyone know if the fire was held at gird? Nothiing advanced west of there?
Hopefully anyone can update us on the area east of S Mission/Winterwarm road and West of Gird Road. We have family on Gracey lane and they are trying to get info. I'm in Seattle trying to help get info. Anything is appreciated
Kyle if I see you post again, can I give you Ed's #.
Is your Dad Jim?
My parents live on Green Canyon Lane, off of Green Canyon Rd. The answering machine picked up around 7:00.
buley that's good news. Are you sure it's an answering machine and not voicemail at the phone co?
I just called their answering machine and it worked too. I called them and they are happy.
Good idea
I live off of hillcrest and I keep seeing people posting that stage coach was on fire and I just wanted to know if anyone can actually confirm this?
i have friends off of green canyon rd and clamin area. Old school answering machine picked up this morning.
I just heard that the Fallbrook Fire has moved into Santa Margarita Cyn and is threatening homes, does anyone have any info there? I called our house & the machine is still picking up....but who knows how close the fire is?
BJ and Anyone else who want accurate info call the Fallbrook Sherif department for information. I did and they were very helpful.
thank you, what is the phone number?
Do we know if the fire has gone further down mission towards the west
Google it
Okay, thanks.
I just looked at the current Google map of the fire ...
Does anyone know if the fire reached Sandia Creek/Rock Mountain?
Look at sealight's main page, below the first photo:
http://fallbrookfire.blogspot.com/
You will see the Google map link just below the photo.
The maps shows the fire seems to be in the Sandia Creek area. I want to get information on whether this is true.
I will add more as I recall them.

My wife's father lives on Gracey lane, NE of the Winterwarm road area.
We really appreciate it!
I am searching for Minco and Maria Todoroff. They lived on Yucca Terrace in Fallbrook. Any info, or where I can find an updated evacuee list?
geospace
anybody know when we can return to the SE quarter of Fallbrook? Burnable fuel now greatly expended, winds down. What would be the criteria for reentry?
Thanks to everyone for the info. on Valley Oaks Mobile ... we heard late yesterday afternoon that my mom's home is still standing. We're in Guatemala and this has and still is quite an emotional roller coaster ... next up ... wondering when we can re-enter, flying back to CA on Saturday night. Any idea which authorities we should be checking with?
Hey Folks...
Kind Regards,
Christine La Grua
General Manager
Los Willows
from geospace...homes destroyed in Rice Cyn fire are shown in recent inventory done by county.
